April 2008.. got married after 5 years of struggle was very happy that got married to person of my choice .. my dream came true.
Both of us had just one thing common love for travelling. We did mind storming to choose a place to go for our honeymoon. As my hubby is a shippie so our choices narrowed down to hill station. Then we came to know about Leh. Although I had heard so much about Leh but first time after reading travelogues I could really feel the excitement adventure and beauty of Leh. The more I read and saw the pictures posted in travelogues the more my desire to go strengthen.
We planned and we planned and we planned but as it was my husband's first drive and me a non driver we could dare up to Rohtang only.
And I must admit that even driving up to Rohtang was too exciting for both of us. We drove from Deradun to Manali via Shimla. Dehradun to Shimla via Nahan complete hill route.. Lonely roads and awsome scenery.. we climbed up up and up... then from Shimla it was altogether depressing route to Manali with cement factories and Trucks as our companions on road.
But as soon as we entered Manali it was Wow! we saw snow...
It was such a thrilling experience driving towards snow then climbing up and finding our self into the snow.. In our excitement we forgot to pack some food with us and when we were up at Rohtang pass it was 5'o clock in the evening. We were surrounded by snow... there were walls of snow besides road.
Our desire to go to Leh suddenly grew 100 times stronger. But excitement was killed with sharp words of a local when he told us that Kelong valley is further 6-7 hour of drive from there and in between we would get nothing :-( We had no food and water packed with us.... so we returned to Manali. It was sad but we did enjoyed paragliding Manali. I'll describe about that next time...
Both of us back to work having seeds of Leh trip germinating in our hearts. He was back home in November and then to our utter shock route was closed till May next year :-( To overcome this shock we made a small trip to Harshil via Uttarkashi. We visited NIM and there we got one more shock that we have to book the courses almost a year ahead... Anyways as it was not yatra season so our trip was adventurous enough to make us satisfied and wait coolly for next summers.
Next year May we were in India free also but me 6 months pregnant. My husband was helpless neither he could go with me or without me as otherwise i would have killed him.
And then next year i.e. this year we have a 10 months old baby. We have no issues to take her along but both my and his parents gave us life threatening if we take her along. And most unfortunate is no body is ready to keep her for 15 days.
So again I'm waiting next summers to come so that we could go to Leh
